Under The Mountain-Film Review

Now this is more like it! A fantasy for young adults, kind of like the Harry Potter type. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie for the creatures and the makeup effects and the beautiful New Zealand scenery (to be precise, Auckland) The kids don't do a bad job either with nobody really blowing me away with their performance but getting the job done. Also having Sam Neill along doesn't hurt either. Teens Rachel and Theo (Sophie McBride and Tom Cameron) have to move it with their aunt and uncle (who have a son named Ricky) after their mom dies suddenly. It is there where they see an old house that's across the lake and hear stories about strange goings on there. We eventually see who is living there...some old man who keeps looking at them from afar. What they don't know are the old man along with some others of his "family" (The Wilburforce family) are really shape-shifting creatures from another planet. They then meet Mr. Jones (Neill) a man who can heal with fire that comes out of his hands! Some important revelations are brought out for the reason the Wilburforces are so interested in the twins and Mr. Jones' involvement in all of this. A fine movie that I recommend to anybody who wants to see something like Potter or Percy Jackson but have already seen everything that's out. I hope this genre (young adult?) still remains strong because I believe these films have a genuine quality to them. They're just a little bit dark but with amazing effects and good storylines with good credible young actors, sometimes people you've never seen before in a movie. A fun time all the way around, this was a very nice surprise.
