I have just seen one of the most refreshing and original movies to come out in years! Everybody needs to check this movie out. Basically the movie is like a video game (all the positives of a video game, not like utter tripe like House Of The Dead) where the title character Scott Pilgrim must face the seven deadly exes (of Ramona Flowers). It is fast paced from the very first frame and it doesn't let up at all with amazing performances from everybody involved especially and not only Kieran Culkin (who so far has survived the dreaded child actor syndrome and just keeps getting better and better), Mary Elizabeth Winstead as THE GIRL Ramona Flowers (Bruce Willis's daughter in Live Free or Die Hard!!), who wouldn't want to go out with this girl, I mean come on guys! She's got everything, she's hot, she's cute (yes that's two different things), and she's got colored hair and she's got that "it" that only a few girls have (guys you know what I mean), Ellen Wong who plays Knives Chau (!) Scott's girl before meeting Ramona, with a great energetic performance, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, the girl who works everywhere (lol), and Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim who plays Scott's sister. Is there anybody cuter right now in film than Anna Kendrick? I say no! And of course we can't forget Scott himself Michael Cera who can play these quasi nerdy/cool guys in his sleep. I tell you this guy is here to stay and we will see this guy do something amazing in his film future that we didn't expect. The man is a great talent. And I haven't even talked about the music. Great as well. For once the script is tight, the script is smart and doesn't dumb down and the direction is lightning quick and the visuals are presented in a fun and unique way. You know I'm 49 years old and I have always liked teen comedies for some reason and in my job I have opportunities to hear what kids (teens and early twenty somethings) say and how they talk and I can see kids talking just like they do in this film. That is always a nice thing because there are so many movies where the writer just doesn't have it when it comes to young people and how they talk or act. I wish there were more scripts where young people are represented better in film and not brainless idiots. It is a rare thing when they're portrayed like they are in real life, they can converse with you, they can talk in complete sentences, they have real emotions, they have important things to say, but yet they have the qualities of what make them young people. It is sometimes what is missing from us when we get older. I truly believe we need to be around young people. It's to keep us young at heart as well, to let us not forget what it was like growing up with insecurities, confused feelings, heartache, anger, extremes in all emotions. Let us not forget that so we can become better "older" people. But I digress. See this film at all costs. Go now!
