Brought to the screen by Nimrod (!) Antal (Vacancy, Armored) and produced by Robert Rodriguez comes a somewhat interesting premise with the beginning of the film where Brody is freefalling and unconscious, suddenly comes too and in the nick of time his parachute opens before he falls to his death. He quickly learns there are others with the same experience. All of these people have fallen from the sky with no idea how they got there and why. A few minutes later they realise it's not the planet they thought they were on. And they are being hunted. And then the script lets us down from what could have been a remarkable survival horror film. I've giving it three stars because there is star power (I never knew Brody could kick so much ass until this year), with Fishburne as the loner they meet who has "survived" out there for 7 (no 10 seasons) (you'll know what I mean if you see the film), with Topher Grace as a doctor who I immediately knew was the character in the film who was completely out of his element. Everybody else seemed to be either had some military training or something to that effect. Well after some meandering they finally meet what they're up against. We all know what these creatures look like and I must say they did look pretty good. Just an average flick I'm afraid with so much more potential. I kind of thought Nimrod would spice up the action because he has done some amazing tight direction with the film Vacancy a one note film that was way better than it should have been. And Rodriguez being the producer well it just should have been better. If I was wearing a watch I would have looked at it a few times during the movie. If another predator movie comes out would I watch it? Of course because the creatures are one of the best designed in movies of this type and I want to learn more about them. It would be nice to bring that angle to a film. Why are they like this? How old are they? Have they ever been kids? Can they reproduce? Are there female predators? Maybe some of these have been answered in previous films but I guess I don't remember. If you're dying for some new predator action and want to see Brody in an action piece then see this movie but otherwise it should probably be low on the rental list. You decide.
