Frozen-Film Review

What would you do if you were on a ski lift over 50 feet up in the air and nobody knew you were up there? That is the question posed in this fun and gripping film. From director Adam Green (Hatchet) comes his newest work starring Kevin Zegers (the kid from Air Bud!!, obviously a long time actor), Shawn Ashmore (Iceman from the X-Men movies and among others, The Ruins) and newcomer Emma Bell (who's now in The Walking Dead and soon in the new Final Destination 5 movie! Yea!) who puts in a great performance. There's some pretty nice character development here. Sometimes you don't see that in a genre film but here we actually care about what happens to these people and believe me there are some horrible things that happen to them. After learning from the featurettes that there was no green screen used and they were up there on the ski lifts for hours and hours literally freezing some of the time they weren't acting at all. And the things that the filmmakers had to do to bring a full crew to shoot a film on a mountain was simply amazing. I have to recommend the featurettes on this film which were almost as interesting as the film itself. There are 4 different featurettes on the dvd with 3 of them clocking in at about 10 minutes each while the last one was over 40 minutes long! But it was jam packed with info about the effects, the weather conditions, the lack of sleep, the animal trainers, the problems with equipment, with lack of snow, with too much snow, and so on. It makes you think what you would do in that situation. Who knows? It's easy to say what you would or wouldn't do sitting in a darkened room on the couch in the safety of your heated house. You really don't know until you're in that situation. An original idea in a very good presentation of a story with characters you are interested in due to a great degree because of the actors present. Recommended.
