An experiment gone wrong that's not for the kiddies at all. Brody and Polley play genetic scientist superstars who have been successful splicing dna from different animals. Well there's a huge presentation coming up for their backers and they need to knock their socks off with what they've been experimenting with in the labs. When the presentation goes wrong on so many levels they're stuck with nothing at all and their bosses want them to shut everything down. Needless to say they've been working on something else that will rewrite the books on dna research. When the result turns out to be better than they ever hoped they now have to deal with hiding what they've created from others. What they've created is Dren (played when adult by Delphine Chaneac, as good as you can play a creature who must convey all of her emotions without words just little sounds and an expressive face). Of course everything starts out alright until there are some issues with Elsa's past which raises its ugly head that affects Dren as well. It is shortly thereafter when the movie goes toward a very screwed up path. Now there were hints here as to why these characters did what they did so I really wasn't surprised by it that much. Some people said it ruined the movie for them but it didn't for me. Of course I am only giving it 3 stars anyway. Brody and Polley are good in their roles as to be expected. Polley has done this genre before (well kind of, with Dawn Of The Dead, definitely more horror than this one which I would say it's in the Species type of genre) and we're seeing Brody doing more of these as well (the Argento film Giallo and of course Predators). Really not bad for a rental night but as for buying it for your library I have reservations but try it for yourself.
