The Town-Film Review

Nice strong movie directed, co-written (screenplay), and starring Ben Affleck. I have a feeling we're going to see some really nice things from Mr. Affleck kind of like when Clint Eastwood started directing films he was in (remember he did his first one way back in '71 with Play Misty For Me). Set in Boston amongst the crooks and lowlifes who are trying to get through their lives by any means necessary. Some like to rob banks and this is where we learn about Doug MacRay (Affleck). Trying to get the elusive "just one more job" then everything will be fine and he'll hang it up. Of course it never goes as planned and we see his life slowly going out of control. Amongst all of this turmoil he meets ( I won't say how he initially meets up with her) Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall) and he finally has something he can believe in. Meanwhile his buddy. a loose cannon if there ever was one (played magnificently by Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker)) is getting antsy for the next job. There's also an FBI agent (Jon Hamm-Mad Men) hot on his trail and getting closer and closer to finding out who's doing these bank jobs. All of these things come to a head at a Boston Red Sox baseball game and we're left with seeing a pretty strong film about crime, loyalty, love and trying to get out it once and for all. Affleck does a fine job as director and actor (it must be so hard to direct yourself). The guy is continually doing good work as he always had (he's always had the acting chops). I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to see movies like The Departed and others like it. You won't be disappointed.
