Going The Distance-Film Review

I have never been a huge Drew Barrymore fan (I always thought 50 first dates was her best, maybe not acting ability, just the one I liked the best). Sure she's been good in a lot of movies but has she ever been great? I don't know, for me the jury's still out. She's actually showing some age in this romantic comedy and this is probably one of her stronger showings (I just remembered, I loved her in Duplex, maybe better than 50 first dates, yes, probably, yes definitely!) A nice ADULT relationship movie about a couple that fall in love and basically don't want to be apart even though one person is clear across the country from the other. When I say an adult movie I mean in the writing where there are very believable circumstances between the two characters. There are hard choices to be made here, just like in real life relationships especially long distance ones. Life is messy and so is love. I thought the movie conveyed this very strongly which was a nice surprise. So many movies skim the issue and wrap everything in a pretty little bow. This movie was not like that at all. I also say adult movie because the issues of sex are quite a bit more prevalent in this film with some funny results. The movie was a little more crude than I expected so a word of warning for people who didn't know that. Not enough to be an issue by any means however for most people. Overall a very strong comedic relationship film with strong performances from Justin Long and Drew Barrymore. Recommended.
